All 17 teachers at St Stephens Isongo Secondary School in Mumias East, Kakamega County, have been transferred by the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) following protests by parents and students over poor 2023 KCSE exam results.

According to the chairperson of the Kenya Union of Post-Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET) in Kakamega Johnstone Wabuti, the 17 were handed their transfer letters to neighbouring schools.

Wabuti on Thursday blamed the community for failing to follow the law when conducting last week’s demonstrations, where parents and boda boda operators invaded the school and chased away all teachers over poor results in the 2023 KCSE examinations.

Meanwhile, the area MP Emmanuel Wangwe has urged TSC to reinstate the teachers back to the school immediately.

He called for a probe into alleged incitement of the protests by some politicians.
