Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has assured that all promises made by the government will be fulfilled before the next elections, in a bid to improve the lives of Kenyans.
Speaking on Thursday at
Dundori in Bahati Constituency, Nakuru County, while inspecting ongoing
development projects, the Deputy President said the government's current focus
is on developing the country through key projects aimed at uplifting the
socio-economic status of all citizens.
The DP inspected the
progress of the Dundori ESP Market, funded by the national government, which is
set for completion by early June next year.
“I want to assure you that
we are working hard to fulfill all the promises we made to the people of Kenya.
Before we come back to ask for your votes again, we will account for each and
every promise,” said DP Kindiki.
The Deputy President noted
that the government is constructing 19 modern markets in Nakuru County, with
two more scheduled to commence soon. In Bahati, three markets are currently
under construction.
“We promised our
small-scale traders, including mama mboga, that we would provide decent places
to do business and earn a living. That’s why we are fully focused on building
these markets, which will be completed on time,” he stated.
Countrywide, the government
is funding over 400 markets, which are at various stages of completion.
In addition to providing
dignified trading spaces, the markets will also be equipped with cold storage
facilities to preserve perishable goods, ICT hubs to facilitate digital jobs
for the youth, and special areas for lactating mothers.
The government is also
reviving all stalled roads in the county and expanding electricity connections
through the ongoing Last-Mile Connectivity Programme.
“We have the resources to
connect over one million new customers across the country. In Nakuru, we are
targeting 56,000 new connections,” indicated Prof. Kindiki.
The DP also announced a
meeting with leaders from Nakuru next week to address pending issues regarding
the issuance of title deeds and the implementation of the shamba system of
farming in the area, as requested by residents.
“As requested by the
people, I have instructed Kenya Forest Service officers not to harass residents
as we work with leaders to ensure that the shamba system is implemented without
harassment and without harming our forests,” he affirmed.
Prof. Kindiki added that
the issuance of title deeds will be expedited, as urged by the residents.
“I have spoken with the
Lands CS and PS, as well as the county government, to hasten the preparation
and distribution of title deeds for the people of Dundori and other areas in
Nakuru, including Subukia and Gilgil,” he revealed.
He also reiterated the
government’s commitment to lowering the cost of living by subsidizing farm
inputs, reducing inflation, and stabilizing foreign exchange rates to make food
and other essential items more affordable for Kenyans.
