Agriculture CS nominee Kagwe's net worth rises by Ksh.174 million
Agriculture Cabinet Secretary nominee Mutahi Kagwe has
revealed that he is worth Ksh.842 million; an increase of 26 per cent from his previous
vetting as Health minister where he declared his net worth as Ksh.668 million.
He made the revelation on Tuesday when he appeared before before
the National Assembly Committee of Appointments chaired by Speaker Moses
Wetangula for vetting, adding that his net worth comprises real estate and
businesses.
"My wealth is in assets and made up of real estate,
pieces of land accumulated over many years," he said.
This means that the CS nominee has amassed an increase of
Ksh.174 million from his previous declaration in 2020.
The declaration is in line with the Public Officer Ethics Act
which requires all officers to reveal their wealth.
At the time, Kagwe revealed that his wealth was also
attributed to his two companies; public relations firm, Tell Em and research
agency TNS RMS East Africa which generated Ksh.5.4 million profit in the
previous financial year.
During the session, he promised to make agriculture attractive
to the youth by incorporating IT into the sector.
“Agriculture has to be made cool for the youth to embrace it.
It is too boring currently and needs to include technology and new ways of
doing things. We will work with the education ministry to revamp how we train
agriculture students,” Kagwe noted.
Kagwe noted that his strategy would involve using the social
media space to sensitize the public about various initiatives.
“I will use the same social media where a lot of
disinformation has been taking place and work with the fourth estate to
dissemination to Kenyans,” Kagwe said.
