Aegis Hosts Successful Girls' Football Open Day on International Women’s Day

This historic event marked a significant step forward in empowering young girls through football, giving them a platform to showcase their talent, participate in structured training, and make meaningful strides toward a promising future in sports.
As part of its commitment to grassroots football, Aegis Football Academy focused this year's initiative on developing young female talent, building on the success of last year's boys' programme.
The Open Day provided parents with a unique opportunity to see the transformative effects of structured training on their daughters' football development.
“These girls showed us what happens when we invest in their strength and believe in their dreams. We are not just building footballers; we are building leaders who will move us all forward. Huu ni mwanzo tu!” said Coach Sharon Nyaoke, Aegis Football Academy coach and head coach of the Kenya Women’s Amputee Football Team.
The Open Day, which ran from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., included engaging training sessions in which girls demonstrated their skills and honed their techniques.
Parents engaged in interactive discussions with Aegis' professional coaches to gain insight into the academy's structured training approach. The event also honored outstanding players who were chosen for scholarships, emphasizing the academy's commitment to developing young talent.
This interactive experience strengthened the bond between parents and their children's sporting goals, while also emphasizing the importance of gender equality in sports.
Despite progress, women's football in Kenya continues to face obstacles such as limited opportunities and a lack of structured programmes.
Aegis Football Academy is working to close this gap by creating long-term opportunities for young girls who are passionate about the sport.
“Football has the power to transform lives, and we are here to ensure that no talented girl is left behind,” said a spokesperson from Aegis.
“By investing in girls’ grassroots football, we are investing in future champions and role models.”
The Open Day is just the beginning of a broader movement to empower young girls through sports, ensuring they receive the support needed to pursue their dreams.
With continued investment and mentorship, these young athletes will have opportunities to compete, lead, and inspire future generations.
Stay tuned for more updates and future initiatives from Aegis Football Academy as they continue to champion girls’ football development in Kenya. #IWD2025 #MtaaImeomoka #GirlsInFootball
