Account for Ksh.13.6 million found in your possession; Wamatangi told

Kiambu Governor Kimani Wamatangi during a bursary disbursement function on August 29, 2023.
The Bunge Mashinani Initiative had petitioned the graft agency to launch probe into the Kiambu financial misuse as was pointed out by auditor general office for the year 2023/24.
Led by their convener Michael Mburu the activists challenged the governor to account for the cash which was recovered in house and offices during the early Tuesday raid by the EACC detectives.
According to an EACC statement issued on Tuesday an early early morning raid in Wamatangi's house resulted in the seizure of Ksh.12 million and USD 13,000 in cash from the governor's residence, funds suspected to be the proceeds of corruption.
The activist say they are pushing for restoration of financial accountability in the county.
On Tuesday, governor Wamatangi spent hours at the EACC head office responding to audit queries and cash embezzlement allegations by his government contrary to the law.
EACC in a statement also accused Wamatangi and his senior officials for the conflict of interest on the procurement process in the county where Ksh.230 million was misappropriated in the last financial year.
In a quick rejoinder, the county boss while addressing his supporters along the Kenyatta Avenue, linked his arrest and woes as political witch hunt even as vowed he will not be intimidated to align against his stand.
