7-day detention for workers allegedly arrested with explosives outside Wanjigi's house

Duncan Odhiambo Otieno and Calvin Ochieng Odongo accused of being in possession of explosives.

Two men allegedly arrested with explosives near the home of businessman Jimi Wanjigi will be remanded for seven days to allow police conclude investigations against them.

Court ruled on Monday that there are sufficient reasons to detain the two pending investigations.

However, the two through their lawyer asked the court to review its decision saying that the state has no reasons to detain them.

According to lawyer Willis Otieno, the state said they recovered the explosives near Wanjigi’s residence, and therefore the two persons should be released.

"Let the state deal with Wanjigi not the two. It is police officers who planted the explosives," he submitted.

Otieno told the court that persons who allegedly planted the explosives in the car and in Wanjigi’s house were captured by CCTV.

He claimed police officers did it, hence no compelling reasons to detain the two because Wanjigi has taken it up.

"Allow the giants to fight like giants. We should not waste the courts time by involving innocent parties in what they do not know," Otieno submitted.

In the case, Duncan Odhiambo Otieno and Calvin Ochieng Odongo were arrested last week and taken to court under miscellaneous application.

They asked the court to release them with conditions.
