62-year-old Kisii granny working as boda boda operator abandoned by daughter after Citizen TV interview

A 62-year-old woman from Kisii County who wowed Kenyans after she revealed to Citizen Digital that she rides a motorcycle for a living now says she is almost being ejected from her rental house over unpaid rent.

Citizen Digital caught up with Anne Nyaboke within Gusii Stadium as she was trying, albeit in vain, to seek the attention of Kisii Governor Simba Arati; from the looks of it, the arguably eldest female rider in the country looked worried and frail.

Nyaboke said her tribulations began after she accepted media interviews against her daughter's wish, who she says has now stopped giving her support including Ksh.4,000 monthly rent.

The granny however says her only worry is how to pay the rent after landlord threatened to kick her out.

“Wakati niliwekwa kwa runinga, wengi walianza kunichekelea wakiniambia nimesaidiwa piki piki. Ata motto wangu ameanza kunikataa, hawezi kunilipia nyumba, mpaka nimeanza kuumwa na pressure inarudi chini,” she said.

“Ata kula kwangu ni ngumu kwa vile nafikiria eti hii mtandao waliniweka ilifanya mimi na familia yangu tutengane.”

She expressed optimism that some day her doors shall be opened and that the reason to go out to the public to share her daily hustle was simply to encourage the young girls out there not to wait for opportunities on a silver platter but instead move out of their comfort zones to fend for themselves.

The mother of one also clarified that the homestead where she did her first interview was at a well wisher’s compound whom she occasionally helps with house chores.

“Ni vizuri niseme shida zangu nisijikute nafanya mabaya watu waulize mbona sikusema mashida zangu. Sasa nauliza watu wangu ambao wako ng’ambo, mbona mniwache? Ata nyumba ntafungiwa, nianze kutangatanga,” she said.

Nyaboke was spotted at Nyanturago Stadium where she carried Kisii County First Lady May Arati during Mothers’ Day commemoration.

She is currently plying the Suneka - Nyachenge route.
