6 Sony Sugar staff arrested over theft of 7.5 tonnes of sugar

Officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have arrested six employees of Sony Sugar Company implicated in the theft of sugar weighing 7.55tonnes in April 2024.

Sony Sugar Company Managing Director Martin Dima confirmed that six employees have been arrested and are set for interrogation as two other top officers at the sales department are still being pursued by the police.

Dima said the loss of the aforementioned amount of sugar from the company was realized during an audit process before he joined the company as MD.

The director said the investigations have been ongoing since then and a report was tabled before the General Purpose Committee that recommended action by the police.

Dima further revealed that the 7.55 tonnes were only recorded in April 2024 and the company seeks to find out if more sugar had been lost before then.

He urged police to investigate all other persons implicated in the theft of sugar.

Dima added that he is determined to restore sanity in the company that has recently been struggling because of weaker financial muscle.
