50-year-old woman among 8 arrested as 497kgs of bhang seized in Nakuru

Detectives in Gilgil, Nakuru County, have arrested eight suspects in possession of 497 kilograms of marijuana, popularly known as bhang.

The suspects included 50-year-old Monicah Wanjiru, with the others all aged between 22 and 27 years. They were busted at their hideout at Pakawa area in Gilgil on Saturday.

The other suspects were; Nahashon Njoroge, Martin Njoroge, Stephen Kamau, Simon Ndung'u, Maxwell Nduale, Jackson Wanjohi and John Muthee.

“Acting on a tip-off from members of the public, police in Elementaita backed up by their Rift Valley region counterparts stormed the homestead located at Pakawa area in Gilgil, therein discovering the drug haul packed in 21 gunny bags,” the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) stated.

The DCI said the value of the drugs is yet to be determined, adding that the eight are currently detained and awaiting arraignment on Monday.
