5 suspects linked to motorbike theft arrested in Isiolo
Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations in Isiolo have arrested five suspects in connection with a motorbike theft syndicate.
The DCI officers also impounded five stolen motor cycles in an ongoing crackdown on motorcycle theft in the region.
A pair of uniform belonging to G4S security company, 15 motorcycle ignitions and their keys, helmets, plugs, electronics and other spare parts were also recovered during the raid.
Speaking to the Press after the operation, Isiolo County DCI boss Michael Kimilu said those arrested are suspected to be part of a motorbike theft syndicate.
They are alleged to have been terrorizing boda boda operators in Isiolo, Meru, Embu and Tharaka Nithi counties.
Kimilu noted that the operation would continue in order to nab other criminals associated with those who have already been arrested.
He added that the suspects would be arraigned in court after completion of the investigations.
Stating that the syndicate steals and dismantles motorcycles then sells their spare parts, the DCI boss said the offence amounts to robbery with violence.
According to him, some of the owners could have lost their lives during the incidents.
He lauded members of the public for providing crucial information leading to the successful operation and called for more cooperation to ensure that the crime ends.
