A total of 339 murder cases have been recorded across the country from between August to October 2024, the National Police Service (NPS) has revealed.

In a statement issued on Thursday evening, Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja highlighted that the figure marks a slight increase compared to cases recorded during the same period in 2022 and 2023.

"A comparative analysis of murder cases reported from August to October for the years 2022-2024, indicates a slight increase. In 2024, a total of 339 murder cases have so far been recorded, compared with 336 cases in 2023 and 341 cases in 2022 respectively," noted Kanja.

Some of the high profile cases recorded within the said period include that of slain Wells Fargo HR Manager, Willis Onyango Ayieko, whose body was found partially decomposing in a stream in Khwisero. His body has since been moved to Nairobi for an autopsy.

Similarly, a body suspected to be that of missing Wajir MCA Yusuf Hussein was found in Lake Yahud, but DNA tests revealed it was not him. Investigations are ongoing to determine the identity of the body and to locate the MCA.

The murders of three family members - Dahabo Daud Said, Amina Abdirashid Dahir, and Nusayba Abdi Mohammed - has also shocked Eastleigh, as their bodies were found mutilated in separate locations. Investigations are still underway.

Investigations are also ongoing into the murder of Victoria Mumbua, a taxi driver from Mombasa, whose body was discovered along the Mai Mahiu-Naivasha Highway. A suspect is currently in police custody.
