30-year-old fisherman drowns in Lake Victoria

The body of the fisherman who has been identified as Peter Murunga Omoding’ was spotted near the lakeshore on Wednesday. 

According to Siaya County Police Commander Cleti Kimaiyo, the incident was reported to Usenge police station by the Assistant Chairman of Uhanya Beach Management Unit Naphtaly Oduor. He reported that they had received a report from their local fishermen that there was a body found while floating on the lake.

Officers from Uhanya police patrol base visited the scene and with the help of members of public retrieved the body of the deceased who hails from Teso in Busia County.

While confirming the incident, Kimaiyo stated that the body which had no visible physical injuries was moved to Bondo sub-county hospital mortuary to await postmortem as investigations into the matter continue.
