A matatu ferrying a group of students from Njonjo Girls Secondary school was on Wednesday involved in an accident along the Nairobi-Nakuru highway.

During the midday incident near Kayole estate in Naivasha, a total of 25 people were injured with three students suffering from fractures.

The accident occurred after a van heading from Kisumu to Nairobi rammed head on into the incoming matatu ferrying 13 students back to school in Nyahururu.

The incident came hours after 15 people including seven minors were killed along the Nakuru-Eldoret road in an accident involving a matatu and trailer.

In the latest incident, the van was overtaking a fleet of vehicles when it rammed into the incoming matatu which lost control and fell.

Naivasha Deputy OCPD James Ooro confirmed the accident, noting that all those involved were in stable condition.

He added that as per initial investigations, the driver of the van which was also ferrying passengers to Nairobi from Kisumu was to blame.

All those involved in the accident are being treated in Naivasha Level Four hospital and they are in stable condition while the wrecks have been towed to the police station.

The police boss said that they were waiting for both drivers to record statements once they were released from hospital after treatment.

The Superintendent in charge of the Nyahururu level four hospital, Dr. Bernard Warui, said that they received a total of 25 patients with three of them in serious condition.
