3 sentenced for defrauding Eldoret athletes Ksh.800,000
Eldoret Chief Magistrate Dennis Mikoyan sentenced the trio, Thomas Kipyatich Kiptoo, Amos Mutai and Samuel Rono after impersonation charges against them were proven.
According to the charge sheet, the three faced impersonation charges contrary to section 382 of the Penal Code.
They are said to have falsely presented themselves as ADAK officers with intent to defraud athlete Paul Kipchumba Lonyangata on diverse dates between September and October 2021 in Eldoret town, Uasin Gishu county.
Kiptoo alias Ali Thamer Kamal also known as Thomas Kiprotich faced another personation charge of falsely presenting himself as ADAK official to athlete Purity Jebichii Changwony.
The three are said to have obtained a total of Ksh.776, 700 from the athletes between September 2021 and June 2022.
Kiptoo, who faced a second count of obtaining money by false pretence had obtained Ksh.546,700 from Lonyangata who he had promised to help to terminate the Anti-doping case that he was facing following his suspension by ADAK on February 12, 2022.
Court documents stated that Kiptoo received the money from Lonyangata between October 3 and October 31, 2021.
Mutai, believed to have been working with Kiptoo reportedly received Ksh.30,000 from the athlete on October 23, 2021.
Kiptoo with others not before court were also charged with obtaining Ksh.200,000 from Changwony by falsely pretending that they would assist her terminate her anti-doping rule violation on diverse dates between September 20, 2021 and June 2, 2022 in Eldoret town.
