Four officers of disbanded DCI unit arrested, to be charged on Monday

Four police officers previously of the disbanded Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Special Services Unit have been arrested.

They are to face charges over alleged abuse of office, conspiracy to commit a felony and kidnapping.

The officers were detained in connection with the abduction of two Indians - Mohamed Kidwai, Zulfiqar Khan and their driver Nicodemus Mwange.

The three were abducted on July 24, 2022.

The two Indians are said to have been part of a team that had come to Kenya to join President William Ruto's IT team in the run up to the August General Election.

The officers are set to be arraigned on Monday.

Peter Muthee, Francis Ndonye, John Kamau and Joseph Mbugua were among 21 officers summoned  last week  in the probe into extrajudicial killings and enforced disappearances in the country.

On Friday, the officers were grilled by detectives from the Internal Affairs Unit of the National Police Service.

They faced a panel of senior officers, were informed they were under arrest and taken to different police stations.

Muthee was taken to Kileleshwa police station, Mbugua to Capital, while Ndonye and Kamau were taken to Kilimani.

President William Ruto, during his Mashujaa Day speech, ordered speedy investigations into the conduct of the disbanded police unit, accusing them of extrajudicial killings and enforced disappearances.

The summoned officers comprised two chief inspectors, one inspector of police, three officers of the rank of sergeant, 10 corporals and five police constables.
