22-year-old man dies after being swept away by floods in Narok

One person is feared dead after he was swept away by floods in Narok County as he attempted to cross the Motony River that burst its banks two days ago.

The family of Enock Kipkoech, aged 22, is distraught after their kin was swept away by the floods as he attempted to cross the river to get to his house.

“Aliingia kwa hii mto sababu naskia yeye hupitia tu hapo. Maji ilikuwa mingi hiyo siku ndio sababu alienda hivo,” John Kipkurui, the uncle to the deceased, said.

The Narok County disaster management and Kenya Red Cross teams are currently on a search and rescue mission, with the increased rains hampering the exercise.

"The river has been surrounded by trees on both sides and the increased soil erosion has swept the river banks so now it has been exposed and the banks are very steep,” County Director of Disaster Management, Nancy Laboso, noted.
