Moderators of the 2022 Presidential Debate
Citizen TV’s Yvonne Okwara, NTV’s Smriti Vidyarthi and Joe Ageyo, KTN’s Ken Mijungu and Eric Latiff of Spice FM and KTN News will moderate the third and final debate in readiness for the August 9, 2022 General Election.
The Presidential Debates Secretariat said the five will steer the debate which will presidential candidates present their thoughts on various topics.
Roots Party leader Prof. George Wajackoyah, Azimio La Umoja’s Raila Odinga, Agano Party’s David Mwaure and Kenya Kwanza leader William Ruto show what they have in store for the country should they get elected on August 9.
"The 2022 Presidential Debate will take place Tuesday, July 26, 2022, at the Catholic University for Eastern Africa (CUEA) main campus situated in Karen, Nairobi, from 5:00 pm to 10:00 pm," read a statement signed by Clifford Machoka, the head of the Presidential Debates Secretariat.
Additionally, the debate will be televised in a joint broadcast and will be conducted in two tiers; first one for those with less than 5% approval ratings and second one for those with 5% and above.
The first-tier debate will be featuring candidates who have polled less than 5% in three recent opinion polls will be moderated by Ms. Vidyarthi and Mr. Mijungu.
"The second-tier debate involving candidates who have polled above 5% in three recent opinion polls will be moderated by Yvonne Okwara of Citizen TV and Eric Latiff of Spice FM and KTN News. Panel discussions for both debates will be moderated by Joe Ageyo of NTV," added the secretariat.
This will be the final of three political debates, coming after the Deputy Presidential debate and the Nairobi Governor’s edition.
The Presidential debate Secretariat has confirmed that the debates will go on as planned, despite Raila Odinga and George Wajackoyah hinting on skipping the invite to grace the CUEA stage.
