200,000 law-abiding Boda Boda riders to get free 1 year NHIF cover, First Responders training

Some 200,000 Boda Boda riders who have followed National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) regulations will benefit from a capacity building and empowerment program for bodaboda riders, as well as a one-year free medical cover with NHIF dubbed 'BodaBoda Care.'

The program, which was launched in collaboration between the Ministry of Transport, the Ministry of Health (MOH), the National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF), the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA), the Kenya Roads Board, and St. John's Ambulance, will see riders receive First Responder training from St. John's Ambulance.

President Ruto will launch the program at the KICC on Monday between 10.30 and 12.00 am in line with his government's 2022 Boda Boda reforms.

The government hopes that the program will ensure that riders across the country follow the NTSA's laws and regulations while also recruiting riders to the NHIF in order to achieve Universal Health Care.

The program also plans to use the riders as First Responders in the event of an accident.
