2000 residents seek to be enjoined in Lamu land dispute

Over 2,000 residents of Lamu have filed an application at the Milimani Law court seeking to be enjoined in a land dispute matter in Manda.
The residents who are also fishermen in Manda Island say that they have a significant stake and legal interest in the matter they have been the legitimate registered owners of the parcel of land situated in Lamu - Manda.
They have asked the court to enlist them in the case that businessmen obtained orders stopping the DCI from investigating them.
Through lawyer Dantsan Omari, the residents also want the court to vacate orders dated November 14 issued in favour of the businessman.
The residents are accusing two companies – Goodson Nine Limited and Goodson Fifty Three Limited of colluding with others to take over their land measuring more than 1000 acres.
On November 11, High Court judge Bahati Mwamuye issued orders in a case filed by businessman Alex Githinji  restraining the DCI and DPP from prosecuting him over any matter arising from the purchase of the parcels of land known as Lamu-Manda island.
In the application, Njage states that he carried out an official search which confirmed that the said parcel of land was owned by Abdillahi Farh Haji and proceeded to deliver the final payment of the purchase priced.
He says that the actions of the respondents to charge him are malicious.
