153K students selected for university; KUCCPS says Education most popular degree
The Kenya
Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) has selected 153,301 students to join various public and private universities.
The
placement board’s CEO Agnes Mercy Wahome said of these, 134,743 were placed in
public universities for degree programs, while 18,558 will join private universities.
Some 7,834 others meanwhile met the threshold to join university technical and vocational education
and training (TVET) institutes while 63,921 were placed in Ministry of
Education (MoE) TVET institutions.
Another 9,529 students will pursue diplomas in primary teacher education while 734 others
take diplomas in secondary teacher education.
The Kenya
Medical Training College (KMTC) will in the meantime get 19,653 students in its
71 campuses nationwide.
Dr Wahome
noted that of the applications the placement board received from students who
attained the C+ minimum university entry grade, 76.2 per cent opted for degree
courses while the rest opted for diplomas.
“Bachelor
of Education attracted the highest number of applicants and male applicants continued
to dominate placement to degree programmes, sustaining a trend that has been
observed since the beginning of the central placement system,” she noted.
In
contrast, female students have made up the majority of those placed in TVET
institutions since 2020.
