The Directorate of
Criminal Investigations (DCI) has arrested 14 suspects in connection with the
incident at Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya's home, where a group of
unidentified people stormed the premises and disrupted an operation by
Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) officers.
According to the
DCI, the suspects were taken into custody to also aid in providing further information
regarding the incident.
The suspects
include Leon Ikua, Brian Mutonyi, James Maina, Churchil Ambula, Chirispus
Kingara, Joseph Kakanja, Daniel Kanyingi, Levy Kiprotich, John Kamau, Benjamin
Bukhala, Lavingtone Kipkemboi, Isaac Nyongesa Wanyonyi Wasike, Tonny Wafula
Wasike and Ismael Juma.
"The operation
is ongoing, with efforts currently focused on apprehending additional suspects,
including financiers, facilitators, and ring leaders behind the incident,"
the DCI stated.
The development
comes as EACC officers launched investigations of fraudulent payments totaling
Ksh.1.4 billion by the Trans Nzoia Governor during the fiscal years 2022/2023
and 2024/2025.
This led to
Natembeya's arrest and subsequent release on a Ksh.500,000 cash bail or Ksh.1
million bond. He was also barred from accessing his office for 60 days and from
contacting witnesses in the probe.
