8 dead after matatu and truck collide on Nakuru-Eldoret highway

The 3.00 am incident involved a 14-seater matatu which was heading towards Nakuru direction and the truck that was heading towards the Eldoret direction. 

The accident occurred at the Ngata stretch, and those injured were rushed to the Nakuru level 6 hospital. 

“We have now established that 8 people have died, 5 others, including children were seriously injured. The lorry driver escaped after the accident, we are looking for him. The matatu driver is among those who died," Nakuru county police commander Samuel Ndanyi said on Monday morning. 

Editor’s note: An earlier communication from police said 10 people died. An update from the OCS now indicates there were 8 casualties.
