A Kenyan Twitter user probably had the best intentions in his heart when he tweeted, "You don’t have to be in a relationship to care for the women who visit you."

Looked at face value, the tweet is starkly innocuous and would pass off as any other feel-good tweet on any other Tuesday afternoon.

But the man behind the tweet, a gentleman going by the name Onyango Otieno, got more than he bargained for all because of the photo he chose to attach to his tweet - three packets of sanitary pads and a box of painkillers.

Otieno's photo, even without him having to explain it, basically meant that men need to have a good supply of crucial women necessities lying around their houses for the women in their lives - even if there is no romantic relationship involved.

According to Otieno, men need to have several (or maybe even one) packets of sanitary pads lying around their houses and it does not have to be for their wives or girlfriends; that it should be for any 'woman who visits them.'

The tweet started off nicely, as they all do. But, as it toured around Twitter, opinion started to get sharply divided.

Thousands of men, high on machismo, roundly berated Onyango for making such a suggestion, many calling him a 'weak' man and others a simp, in this case, a man whose masculinity has been utterly usurped by a woman.

A lot of men (and some women) still are, to this minute, more than 48 hours later, berating and blasting Onyango for even 'entertaining the thought of buying sanitary pads' and proudly parading them in his house.

A female Twitter user going by the handle, @Gladysmwangi wrote, "Mandem picked the best brands but still got cooked (laugh emoji)."

Another user @olewaithera, this time a man, wrote, "But as a man, grow up! How can you have pads in your house? Since I was in a mixed school, both secondary & college, it was illegal to have such stuff in your box or room, you could even be expelled!"

Another female tweep @chidera_nora reacted, too, saying, "Except he's not my man...I understand basic human decency, but please don't keep female friends that will come to yours and be changing pads."

The debate on whether a man should keep spare sanitary pads in his house for a woman, whether they're dating or not, has sharply divided Twitter with many taking sharp stances and thousands, especially, women, lauding Onyango for such a thoughtful deed.

"I'm not understanding this furore over pads lakini. It’s not like women are going to your man's house to discuss their menses. The pads are simply placed in the bathroom for whoever is having an emergency, and they happen all the time by the way. All the man does is replenish," Twitter user, @wordslinger said.

As of now, the tweet, which has since gone viral, has been viewed over 3 million times, has close to 4 thousand likes and nearly 2 thousand quote tweets.
