‘Stepping up’: Equity Group ex-Group director Mary Wamae to unveil new chapter at meeting
Three months after leaving the C-Suite office as the Group Executive Director at Equity Group Holdings PLC, Mary Wangari now has more time to smell the roses, engage in passions that her tight corporate schedule would otherwise not have allowed her to do, and pay it forward through mentorship.
And it is in line with this bit of mentorship that Mary Wangari has convened a gathering to mark the one-year anniversary since the publishing of her book, The Village Girl, as well as celebrate her 20-year career at Equity Group Holdings PLC.
Mary has previously spoken about taking on executive coaching to share the vast knowledge she has acquired over the years, while at the same time mentoring young and upcoming leaders.
Mary intends to share inspiration and nuggets of advice with attendees at the ‘Stepping Out, Stepping Up’ meet on October 26.
The event will see over 200 executives, entrepreneurs, innovators and policymakers converge at the Movenpick Hotel for an afternoon of inspiration and mentorship as Mary explores the next step in her journey.
Insights will be shared on authentic leadership, financial planning and retirement.
During an interview with She Means Business, Mary emphasized the importance of keeping up with changing work dynamics to remain relevant.
She said, “We are living in a very competitive environment. If you have a degree, remember you are competing with people sitting in Seattle and elsewhere...Self-development has to be intentionally done. It can’t be ad-hoc.”
Mary spoke about the importance of familiarizing oneself with machine learning, Artificial Intelligence (AI) and other trends because they are changing the future of work.
