Popular American TV show host Ellen awards Kenyan man with Ksh2.5M
Popular American TV show host Ellen Degeneres surprised a fan, who is of Kenyan origin for his good deeds.
The man, identified as Lawrence who lives in New Jersey, told Ellen that at the age of 19 he won the green card lottery which enabled him get a permanent residency in the United states.
During the show, he was awarded Ksh 2.5 million, a laptop, headphones, an Ellen T-shirt, a pair of socks, a notebook and sweat shirt as he joins college.
“I wanted to be in the healthcare field, I wanted to be a nurse so bad but didn’t have the money to go to college because I was supporting my sister who is in college and my brother who is in high school by paying their school fees,” he said.
Lawrence, a nurse assistant, further revealed that his move to the U.S. has not been all rosy.
He narrated how neighbours once mocked him because of the strong African accent and color of his skin.
The Kenyan man further said how at one point he even contemplated going back home but decided to ignore the challenges he was facing.
This he did by focusing solely on his job which he said enabled him to be selected as the employee of the month and also be voted as one of the kindest people by his colleagues.
