Nyali MP Mohamed Ali's generous use of sugar in his tea leaves Kenyans salty
It is not the fact that he is having lunch that is grinding the gears of Kenyans online, but the amount of sugar he puts in his tea.
Many think he is laughing at the poor who are struggling economically and blaming him for having helped pass the controversial Financial Bill which will add more tax burdens on Kenyans.
In a video he shared with his 65k TikTok followers, the former 'Jicho Pevu' investigative journalist is seen adding at least five spoonfuls of sugar into his tea - at some point, even appearing to rethink the decision.
At a time when the cost of living has escalated, and sugar prices have more than doubled, Kenyans were shocked to see the Kenya Kwanza leader using not just so much sugar - but doing it publicly.
While others focused on the implications his actions would have on an overburdened taxpayer, others raised concern over the risk of contracting sugar diseases like diabetes after consuming such high amounts of sugar in one sitting.
Tiktoker Desert Rose wrote, "The legislators who eat taxpayers at the mercies of a hungry mother, child suffering from the laws these people pass. Enjoy!"
Another user Jackie Njeri said, tongue-in-cheek, "And the way sugar is expensive! Weka chai kwa sukari instead..."
Going by the lunch, Ali, who obviously is one of the highest-paid people in Kenya, by virtue of the office he holds, appears to enjoy the finer things in life, including a good serving of fine vegetable rice in a pristine restaurant.
