President Uhuru Kenyatta is not your typical African Head of State when it comes to fashion.

Since being elected president in 2013, his style has evolved from the long-sleeved polos and bomber jackets he seemingly preferred when in need of switching things up at the time.

Mr. Kenyatta has adopted more unique statement wardrobe pieces when not in the office and while the nature of his job does not give him much leeway to sport more than just a suit, the president has not minced a chance to push the boundaries and dress up.

As an ode to his most iconic style moments throughout his time at State House, we give you five key style lessons to live by.

1. Silk is essential

Of course it had to start with the silk shirts. Every Kenyan by now knows that Uhuru loves his silk. Flowy, colourful silk.

So popular have his silk shirts become that at one point, Kenyans started making guesses about where he is headed to whenever he wears one of these.

2. Ankara is a not a reserve for ruracios

The President has been a lover of of African Print shirts. You might want to break a sweat looking for similar shirts on platforms like Amazon or Alibaba.

But hold your horses, Uhuru's Ankara 'shirt plug' is at Rivatex East Africa, a textile company located in Eldoret, Kenya.

Uhuru has been wearing the shirts in support of the Buy Kenya, Build Kenya initiative.

3. Master how to safari-chic

President Kenyatta in January made an impromptu visit to the Naivasha Inland Container Depot, and boy!

4. Formal events don't have to make you dress boringly

I mean, look at those boots. Now, compare that to everyone in that room.

5. Don’t be afraid of raiding your partner’s closet, or vice versa – or getting matching pieces altogether

On voting day last week, Uhuru and First Lady Margaret Kenyatta caused a stir when they arrived at their different voting destinations donning what seemed to be a similar navy blue puff jacket.
