From intern to Head of Radio at RMS: Nancy Kwamboka's story on overcoming cyberbullying, raising a sick child
Nancy Kwamboka, popularly known as Nana Ediva, the Head of Egesa FM radio and now a Cluster manager at Royal Media Services, tells the story of how she achieved her position even after struggling with Cyberbullying and raising a sick child.
Nana started off as a shopkeeper who drew inspiration from renowned media personalities to join the industry.
She later became an intern at Royal Media Services where she showed interest in Radio Hosting in Ekegusii. Her journey, notwithstanding challenges, has seen her inspire women listening to the Egesa FM and also helped her overcome struggles like Cyberbullying.
Cyberbullying did not put Nana down, she harks back to when she kept inspiring listeners in Ekegusii on Egesa FM, ignoring the keyboard warriors who wanted to pull her down.
“Every time I go to the village people are so happy, people are encouraging you for a good job. Will Facebook even threaten you? Mumama nimeinspire huko Nyamondo South Mugirango, huko Kitutu Masaba kwetu, wapi huyo mama anaskiza Egesa, huyu hayuko Facebook Cynthia," she said.
Speaking to Behind The Mic on Citizen DigitalApp, Nancy recalls how, during the August holiday, her son, went into a coma immediately after an accident, and was admitted to the ICU after going through head surgery.
Baby Wain fell with a bike and hit his head so hard on a cabro. He lost his speech, mobility and was not able to do anything for himself anymore.
Wain would have been in secondary school this year and for every milestone his friends hit, Nana is constantly reminded, gets very emotional and says that God has been faithful.
“It was around mid-morning, I was in the studio and I kept receiving calls. I said I will return the calls because it was a number I didn’t know. Kumbe it was the Ambulance guys who were looking for me, my son had hit his head on the cabro and went into a coma,” Nana explained.
Rising in the ranks, pursuing her master's degree with a sick child, Nana believes God has given her the strength to manage everything and she will be turning 40 in a few years. She aspires to be the governor of Nyamira County, and believes, 'what you confess with your mouth will come to pass as long as you believe in God' and while on air, she is called Nana, Governor in waiting.
“Embrace what you do, love what you do, focus on the positive and ignore the negative. I know we go through a lot, we should not give up so quickly, talk to your friends, make decisions that you will not regret later,” she says.
