Did this Nairobi woman buy a stolen shoe for Ksh.100? Kenyans on X are confused
Thursday evening, a Kenyan on X (formerly Twitter) going by the handle @MatoleF caused a stir after sharing a photo of a sleek, Kcenid Brown Gladiator Sandal which she claimed to have bought for the extremely low price of Ksh.100.
To explain how all this happened, she shared this very straight-forward caption, saying, "A crazy man in CBD today was selling this at Ksh 100/- (laugh emoji) … sijawai toa pesa hivyo haraka!"
The sleekness of the shoe - the colour, the snakey strap, the gilded pointy heel - shocked many X users unable to understand just how anyone in their right mind would sell a shoe this beautiful for less than a dollar.
In a tweet that has now been seen by over 160k people, many camped in the comment section seeking to know exactly where this individual bought this shoe from and if they could be just as lucky.
After everyone persistently asked; "Where did you buy them?" Matole replied; "Behind Star Mall, utapata amedoze hapo na tu heels....but nimeskia zimeisha the ones remaining hazina the other pair (laugh emoji)."
Many envied Matole for being so lucky with X user @Talai writing, "If kuangukia was a person, this is just luck because whaaaat!"
But no sooner had the party begun than someone showed up to rain on the parade - alleging that the shoe was actually a stolen item.
While sharing her version on her own X account, @jayden wrote," Those shoes were STOLEN. I bought them in UK then after sending them to Nairobi the rider who was delivering was hijacked... the whole luggage was stolen!"
Now, again, the conversation trailed a different trajectory with people unable to tell just what was going on and whether the entire saga was even true.
One user wrote, "Aki jana I scrolled past that post with no second thought kumbe it was to be the mucéné for today. Wueeeehh!"
But after being called out on the heel discrepancies (initial shoe has a shiny heel, the others have a black heel) Jayden quickly deleted her post - but not after causing a mentionable kerfuffle.
But even after deleting her initial post, Jayden still maintained that the Ksh.100 cheap shoe was actually hers - only that, it fell into the hands of a 'mad man'.
"Someone MUST return the shoes or achizi pia... Acha vile mnampa support anunue vitu kwa chizi!" she tweeted.
Despite the confusion, one thing is for sure - whoever is selling lady's sandals behind Star Mall is of unsound mind and has definitely not acquired the said shoes procedurally.
