Africa's Next Super Model sets red carpet in Nairobi for finale contest

The grand finale of the prestigious Africa's Next Super Model competition is set to take place in Nairobi on Sturday evening.

The red carpet is set for the fashion and beauty event that will also mark the first visit to Kenya by Cornell McBride Jr., the President and CEO of McBride Research Laboratories (MRL) - the company behind the Design Essentials Salon System and Design Essentials Natural.

The contest aims at discovering and nurturing Africa's exceptional talent in the fashion industry.

"This visit marks Cornell's first time in Kenya. He seeks to inspire and uplift the Kenyan beauty and haircare industry," said Joan Okorodudu, the President and CEO of Isis Models International during a press briefing on Friday.

The event will feature industry leaders such as Matteo Puglisi, the CEO of Select Models Global, and Bayo Adebyi, the Managing Director of Black Gem Limited, who shared their vision and the transformative impact of Design Essentials on the global haircare market.

"My innovative vision and successful strategies have driven remarkable advancements in product innovation, financial growth, and global market presence,” McBride shared.

The grand finale will also serve as a platform to address the long-standing challenges faced by the African fashion and beauty industry, particularly lack of representation and inclusivity.

Okorodudu, a former model and agent, shared her personal journey as a refugee from the Nigerian Biafran War, reflecting the diverse backgrounds of those who have found success in the industry.

"Imagine you take someone out of Kakuma and then refugee camp and then voila, on cover of Vogue," Okorodudu marveled, highlighting the transformative potential of the industry.

"Kenya is represented with three beautiful girls from Kenya."

Okorodudu called for greater collaboration and support from the Kenyan government and local industries to ensure the long-term success and sustainability of initiatives in Fashion and Beauty.

"Kenya needs to show why we should continue to stay here, right? There are other competing countries in Africa, you know, that they need to help, right?" Okorodudu posed.

The grand finale of the Africa's Next Super Model competition will be a star-studded event, with the attendance of high-profile guests such as Sports and Youth Affairs CS Kipchumba Murkomen , Government Spokesperson Isaac Mwaura, and MCSK CEO Ezekiel Mutua.

The winner of the competition will receive $5,000, international modeling contracts, and exclusive trips to fashion hubs like New York, London, Paris, and Milan.
