The land of the Borana roared with jubilation today as thousands gathered at Arero Goro, Ardha Jilla Badhasaa to witness the 72nd Baali Gadha, an iconic transition of leadership to Guyyoo Boruu Guyyoo, the new Abba Gadha.

A spectacle of tradition and unity unfolded as cultural warriors, spiritual leaders, and proud descendants of the Borana legacy came together in one of the most magnificent displays of heritage in modern history.

The energy in the air was electrifying. Clad in traditional regalia, the crowd erupted into chants and songs that echoed through the vast plains, signalling the renewal of an age-old institution that has guided the Borana people for over 500 years.

The Baali Gadha, a sacred power transition, embodied the wisdom of self-governance, justice, and unity—values deeply embedded in the Borana identity.

Amidst the grandeur, the presence of Marsabit Governor Mohamud Ali and President of Oromia Region Shemelis Abdisa elevated the occasion.

Their attendance underlined the enduring ties between Marsabit, Isiolo, Tana River and Oromia, emphasizing the shared ancestry, governance, and aspirations that bridge communities across borders.

Taking centre stage, Governor Ali reminded the audience that preserving the Gadaa system is not just about honouring history but also celebrating the oldest democracy in the world.
