Why marriage is not a priority for Vanessa Mdee
If your New Year’s resolution was to wife sultry Tanzanian songstress Vanessa Mdee before we cross over to 2017, you will probably not succeed.
Speaking exclusively to Citizen, the wildly successful Nobody But Me singer said that marriage is not at the top of her priorities at the moment.
What could be keeping the popular 27-year-old Catholic University of East Africa law graduate from walking down the aisle?
Well, as you would have guessed, it is the demands of her musical career.
“I would want to be a good wife, and with the life I am living now, that is not possible. I am in the studio for long hours and I often leave late. I am always on tour or on stage and I wake up at crazy hours,” revealed the award winning singer.
So does that mean that marriage is off the cards for her completely?
Mdee says: “When the time comes it will come, but for now I’m focusing on my music. Actually, I feel that I am playing catch up. There’s so much more that I would like to do.”
The ambitious multi-talented performer, who has also made a name for herself as a radio and TV host, says failure is not an option.
“Failure is not an option for me and my biggest fear is not to reach my full potential. So that is why I keep pushing myself to reach my goals day after day,” said the driven singer.
Though her musical career has been quite glamorous, the singer reveals that it has not been an easy ride, especially as a woman.
“Female artists face more challenges than male artistes-especially when it comes to appearance. You need to have that wow-factor so that when people see you they can recognise that Vanessa Mdee is here. Maintaining such appearances costs a lot,” said Mdee.
The sacrifice has, however, been worthwhile. In 2015 Mdee was selected to participate in Coke Studio Africa alongside other leading African acts. In the same year, she landed a lucrative deal as Samsung Tanzania’s brand ambassador.
