US rapper Pusha T dragged into a bizarre Ukraine-Russia Twitter war

In what is perhaps the most bizarre international Hip Hop escalations in 2022, celebrated US  rapper Pusha T has responded to Ukraine’s Ministry of Defense offering him a rare Twitter shout-out.

“Great taste in music for the win,” wrote Pusha in response to a tweet from the verified Defense of Ukraine twitter account, which made reference to his 2013 track “Numbers on the Boards.”

“I put numbers on the boards – @Pusha_T,” read the odd tweet, which highlighted the total number of combat losses Russia has faced from the start of Putin’s controversial invasion in February to September 7.

King Push’s reply to the tweets sent the Hip hop community into a frenzy as many camped on the tweet to drop bombs, excuse me, comments as the ‘LIKES’ and reactions grew by the minute.

Pusha T’s participation in the Russia-Ukraine ‘tweef’ could see him end up on a growing list of notable American citizens currently banned from entering Russia.

As announced earlier this week, Hollywood actor Ben Stiller and veteran showman Sean Penn, two vocal critics of Putin’s invasion of Ukraine, have been banned from Russia for life. The so-called “stop list” comprises 25 people in total, and also includes the likes of Senators Kirsten Cinema, Richard Scott, Patrick Toomey Jr., and Mark Kelly.

Ukraine’s Ministry of Defense regularly includes song lyrics, lines from films and other references when sharing updates on enemy combat losses on social media. In recent weeks, they’ve quoted songs by Queen, Bananarama and The Game along with Rambo, The Big Lebowski, Pulp Fiction, Shakespeare and Mike Tyson.

In May this year, Morgan Freeman joined the Russia banned list alongside Mark Zuckerberg, Hilary Clinton and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.

This also isn’t the first time King Push’s lyrics have been used to drive a point home. In 2021, MSNBC chief legal correspondent Ari Melber quoted Pusha T’s “S.N.I.T.C.H.” when discussing Allen Weisselberg, the CFO of The Trump Organization who was reported to be cooperating with investigators following a probe into his tax returns.

“Covered his own tracks, he didn’t care that,” Melber quoted. “We had a legacy he killed, I got to wear that … Break your heart when the man you call your brother, be the same one that set in motion all them undercovers … From great friends now it’s no affiliation, divided by the time he was facing.”
