Uhuru’s niece Nana Gecaga celebrates 23 years of sobriety
Nana Gecaga, who is President Uhuru’s niece has marked 23 years since quitting alcoholism.
The CEO of Kenyatta International Convention
Centre said that her decision to quit alcohol has made her who she is now.
“I am 23 years sober today, I do not take
it for granted, and I know there a lot of people out there who are struggling
with alcoholism, I wanna say…keep on going, the race is with yourself," she said.
She advised people who are struggling with
alcoholism to be open to seeking help.
“As hard as it may be, look for people
around you and never be ashamed to ask for help. The day that I asked for help
is the day that my life changed,” she said.
Nana added that 23 years ago, she did not
imagine she would be a CEO of KICC nor a great mother to her three boys.
“I could not imagine that I could be how I see
myself, I am strong, I am independent and I am taking every day as a blessing.
Those of you who are still struggling,
please take your life seriously, there is nothing more important than your
value for sobriety, keep going until you find yourself, and you will,” she
said.
‘’At 21 years, I checked into a rehab for alcohol addiction, I used to drink to mask other things I was going through at that time. I started drinking to forget and feel numb before long I got hooked,” she told MC Jessy.
