Ugandan singer Jose Chameleone appears on stage day after hospital discharge
The 'Valu Valu' hitmaker was admitted to hospital in the USA just a few days after arriving for his son's graduation.
He was then said to be critically ill with recurring stomach complications, according to his father Gerald Mayanja.
Speaking during an interview with Bukedde TV, the musician's dad confirmed his son was battling a stomach-related illness.
“Chameleone has been unwell for the past few months. The condition worsened when he moved to America, and now he is seriously ill, confined to his sickbed. He is undergoing treatment for complications in his stomach,” Mayanja said.
He was then reportedly rushed to a hospital in Minnesota where he underwent emergency surgery.
Now, less than a week after the health scare which rocked East Africa, the singer posted a video of himself appearing in front of a handful of fans at an event dubbed 'Afro Fest Toronto'.
While expressing his gratitude to his 1 Million Instagram followers, the legendary music star said that he would be back 'brighter and better'.
"I showed up - Thank you for the unconditional love. The smiles on your faces is the prayers for me. One day we shall come back big, brighter and better," he wrote.
"Thank you management for all the special care. We shall be back next summer."
Just 24 hours earlier, Chameleone posted a video of himself leaving the hospital in a wheelchair.
"I want to take a moment to express my heartfelt gratitude for the love, support, and prayers that I received during my hospitalization. Your kind wishes have truly given me strength through this challenging time," he wrote to his fans.
The singer, whose career began in Kenya in the late 90s, also told fans that he was on the road to recovery while also saying that he was aware his recovery would still require time.
"I am now on the road to recovery. Thank you Aline Medical Hospital Minneapolis for your significant role in my progress," he wrote.
"While my recovery may still require some time and patience, I am confident that I will return to good health soon. God has always been good to me."
In 2015, rumours swirled that Chameleone had issues with his liver and pancreas due to alcoholism.
And again in January 2021, the 'Badilisha' singer was hospitalized in critical condition.
