The year that was: Kenya's funniest Internet moments of 2021

We're in the final days of the 2021 calendar year, and what a better thing to do than recap all the moments that tickled us all year?
Here goes the list, in no particular order.

1. Firirinda
Born off a 1986 Kikuyu Benga hit by the same name, Firirinda which was originally done by Dick Wamunyonyi took over the Kenyan interwebs like a typhoon charmed.

It was played and replayed on all social media platforms and inspired many a TikTok challenges catapulting its creator into a National sensation.
2. Ugali Man
You might want to take eating a generous serving of Kenya's staple Ugali seriously after reading this one.

Charles Odongo, popularly known as ‘Ugali man’,a giant of a man, with tree stumps for hands and mountains for biceps went viral on Kenyan Twitter after taking down the largest chunk of Ugali you ever saw, and with the precision of a watch maker.

So viral was the video that the chunky bloke landed endorsement after endorsement, banking on his physique and unique ugali-eating skills.

The 38-year old father of three received a-state-of-the art gym worth millions of shillings as well as a new car.
3. ‘Nitakufinya’ craze
The craze was spurred by an on-camera argument between two men; Aaron Asiba and Charles Musyoka.

Mr Matendechere ordered Mr Musyoka who was berating the KPLC to stop commenting on electricity issues as he was not an electrian, warning him; 'nitakufinya'

And because Kenyans appreciate those with a funny bone, the duo received brand new motorcycles each and secured a deal with a local maize flour miller in which the two featured in an advertisement.
4. ‘Kwani niko nchi ingine?’
A trader from Kirinyaga could not believe that she was in Kenya after a nasty run-in with police officers who were enforcing the daily curfew.

However it was her eye witness account that left Kenyans thoroughly tickled.

In the clip, the woman narrated what happened to her when she tried to invite a customer only to realize that it was a police officer enforcing the rules.

“Nikaona mtu anakuja, nikamkaribisha karibu customer, nikaskia ku…ku… kwa mgongo! Nikashindwa kwa nini kumeharibika, kwani niko nchi ingine?” she narrated.
6. ‘Wash wash’ series by Terrence Creative
We all knew Terence creative was hilarious, but it's with the release of the wash-wash three-piece that he really struck gold.

The comedian shot the three-part series in which he assumed the role of a sneaky Congolese businessman fleecing a Kenyan with get-rich-quick schemes.

The thrilling series garnered million views and even turned the Kenyan tickler into a social media sensation in Congo.
7. Diana B on this!
Diana Marua, now Diana B or Diana Minaj if you like variety, debuted her rap career in late November, releasing two back-to-back videos that garnered over 1 million views in days.

“Sipangwingwi”

If I had an avocado for every time I heard this phrase in the last 12 hours, I’d most likely be a well-to-do Avocado millionaire.

Its the new to-go-to Kenyan catchphrase for when you want to to act all mighty and unbeatable.

That you are in with the big boys. Bamba-ing. It is the kind of talk by those who claim that they cannot be outsmarted in the streets, or in the sheets.

Although we all kinda know how smart talk goes, when taking is over.

The phrase was made especially popular by a hit-song of the same name by the Trio of Trio Mio, Ssaru and X-ray.
