Sonko rescues Andrew Kibe from angry mob at Ngong Road restaurant
Kibe, a controversial Internet personality whose past pronouncements have landed him in trouble, was interviewing former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko when the youths charged in, immediately scattering the process and elbowing their way towards where the two men were seated.
The unruly lot, suspected to have come from Kibra, appeared to have a bone to crack with Kibe - they raucously yelled at him, spewed epithets at him and goaded him into a violent confrontation as he looked on, bemused.
It was suspected that they had learned of the ongoing interview from Kibe's social media pages and then decided to stage a surprise attack.
As things escalated, one of the men even said that he wanted to physically harm Kibe, prompting the swift intervention of the former City boss who, in videos in our possession, can be seen attempting to calm down the emotionally-charged tumult.
The youths appeared to have been angered by Kibe's unrestrained takes on various hot topics, which have, sometimes, been interpreted as misogynistic and degrading.
As emotions settled and the men grew less antagonistic, the interview then sailed on, smoothly.
During the interview, the flamboyant politician, dressed in a green Gucci sweater, a matching hat and tons of bling, said he's currently jobless and had taken a low profile.
Last year, Sonko and Kibe infamously engaged in a bitter social media feud after the former governor urged Kibe to refrain from mentioning his name on his YouTube show and invading his private life.
Sonko had expressed frustration over Kibe's alleged attacks on a host of top Kenyan celebrities, particularly women.
"I have heard you. I'm not stupid. Keep off my private life. I am a brand to myself. I don't need to show it off. Stop attacking women. The other day, you were attacking Bahati, a young man trying to earn a living. You attacked Kamene Goro, Millicent Omanga, and Karen Nyamu. What is wrong with you? You are full of gossip," Sonko then ranted.
In retaliation, a defiant Kibe characteristically shared a video where he openly criticized the politician, calling him a loser and advising him to humble himself.
During the interview, however, the duo appeared to have shelved their differences and even shared drinks and light banter in the rare sit-down which was streamed live on Mike Sonko's X account.
