Scar Mkadinali gets dragged online for insensitive comments about femicide control

Wakadinali rapper Scar Mkadinali has earned the wrath of Kenyans online after sharing his thoughts on the ongoing femicide debate currently dominating headlines.

Scar, real name Churchill Mandela, who also is one-third of the critically-acclaimed hip hop group Wakadinali, took to his Instagram page to share what many thought was an insensitive - and tone deaf - take on the runway femicide cases ravaging the country.

While appearing to blame femicide on women's singlehood, Scar suggested that women should get married earlier to avoid the trappings of going to 'Airbnbs and clubs'.

"One way of reducing femicide is by advising our women to get married by the age of 23 yrs.Married women rarely go to Airbnbs n clubs. This is not rocket science come on!," he posted.

The rapper's idea quickly rubbed everyone the wrong way, with many unable to comprehend his reasoning given that even married women have fallen victim to hundreds of femicide cases nationwide.

While reacting to the post, Kenyans dragged the rapper, calling him out for his apparent thoughtlessness, some also digging up his past lyrics as an indictment of his insensitivity towards women.

Journalist Samira Sawlani said: "A 2020 UN report said est 47,000 women and girls worldwide were killed by intimate partners or family. In Kenya @AfUncensored found that 75% of 500 cases they looked at, killings were committed by a person who knew the murdered woman. But your misogyny will always overpower sense... "

"What's not rocket science is understanding that majority of the women killed are killed by their husbands/partners in their homes so pushing for women to marry younger when they are likely to have fewer resources, will only make them more vulnerable," said filmmaker Mwende Ngao.

On his part, X user Kariuki Mepho said, "Next time educate yourself first before you give ignorant takes on things beyond your scope. Women killed in their houses by husbands and boyfriends make a huge majority of these statistics. It is better to shut up than say nonsense like this. Shame on you!"

Scar's line in the popular song 'Geri Inengi' 'hatuitishi ruhusa kuguza' also made it's way back to the conversation, with many tying his lyricism to his warped thoughts on women.

"I'm not surprised this is the same guy who used the line 'hatuitishi ruhusa kuguza' in one of his most recent songs. Someone who bombastically declares that he does not need consent before touching a woman is someone whose ideas we shouldn't be too surprised about. Stick to your teenage rhymes bro!" one fan said.

On January 27, thousands of Kenyans, drawn from over 11 counties, took the 'End Femicide' crusade to the streets as they pressured the government to pay more attention to femicide and put an end to the escalating cases of women's murders across the country.
