Sauti Sol to withdraw from Music Copyright Society of Kenya

Celebrated Kenyan music band Sauti Sol has vowed to withdraw their membership from the Music Copyright Society of Kenya (MCSK) citing displeasure over the payment of royalties.

"Why does MCSK always act like they are doing Kenyan musicians a favour? The royalties collected are NOT their direct income but yours. They are working for you!" said Sauti Sol.

The group went ahead to call on other disgruntled artists to stand against the Music Copyright Society of Kenya.

"We are going to withdraw our membership from society as it does not serve our best interests entirely... All disgruntled members who wish to do the same, the time is now! Please reach out. Take back your power!" wrote the all-boy band.

On Saturday, April 15, MCSK distributed royalties owed to Kenyan musicians with Sauti Sol's Bien Aime taking to his Instagram account to apparently mock MCSK for sending him only Ksh.14,000.
