Sauti Sol to curtain raise for American R&B legends Boyz II Men
Award-winning Kenyan boy band Sauti Sol is set to
share a stage with American R&B music group Boyz II Men during the second
edition of the Stanbic Yetu Festival by Stanbic Bank.
The afro-pop band was officially announced by the
event organizers in a statement to newsrooms on Friday; the much-anticipated
concert will take place on June 10, 2023 at the Uhuru Gardens in Nairobi.
Stanbic
Bank’s Head of Consumer and High-Net Worth and Ag. Head of Brand and Marketing,
Lilian Onyach, stated: “We are excited to have Sauti Sol
perform at the upcoming 2nd Edition of the Stanbic Yetu Festival, they will
most definitely help create a soulful and unforgettable musical experience for
Kenyans and beyond.”
“Uhuru
Gardens, which is the event location, was a well thought out and deliberate
choice for us as it aligns with our purpose which is ‘Kenya is our Home, we
drive her Growth’. Therefore, we want everyone to come to enjoy the music,
acknowledge Kenya’s successes, and appreciate our Kenyan heritage.”
Boyz II Men, widely considered one of the most iconic
R&B groups in music history, was announced as the event headliners on April
21, 2023.
Among the Kenyan DJ’s set to entertain revellers during the
event include; DJ G-Money, DJ Grauchi, DJ Forro, Dj Shaky, CNG and DJ Cream.
Boyz II Men has, throughout their 25-year music
career, won 4 Grammy Awards among a slew of other international accolades.
These include; 9 American Music Awards, 9 Soul
Train Awards, 3 Billboard Awards, as well as the 2011 MOBO Award for
Outstanding Contribution to Music.
Sauti
Sol, on their part, has recorded and released 5 albums, which were
well-received locally and worldwide.
In
2021, the band received a Certificate of recognition from the Recording Academy
for their role in making Burna Boy’s album ‘Twice as Tall’, which won the
Grammy Award for Best Global Music Album.
