Sauti Sol hails Dr. SK Macharia, Omanyala among their male heroes
Popular Afro-pop boy band Sauti Sol have come out to
publicly celebrate “great” Kenyan men who they say have made a positive impact
on their journey.
In an Instagram post on Monday, the band which
comprises Bien-Aimé Baraza, Willis Chimano, Savara Mudigi and Polycarp Otieno
celebrated and thanked Royal Media Services Chairman Dr. SK Macharia among
their heroes.
The Grammy Award-winning quartet also
celebrated Kenyan sprinter Ferdinand Omanyala, investigative journalist John-Allan
Namu and football player Victor Wanyama.
“Today we celebrate these great men who have made a positive
contribution to our journey,” wrote the band, “Thank you.”
Omanyala is a celebrated athlete
who has won several medals in the 100 metres race across various championships,
among them the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham and the 2022 African
Championships in Mauritius.
Dr. SK Macharia on the other hand is the
founder and chair of Royal Media Services, the largest private radio and
television network in Eastern Africa. He was top on Forbes Magazine’s list of
the top-10 African millionaires to watch in 2012 and has been honoured with the
2015 Eastern Africa Ernst and Young Entrepreneur Lifetime Achievement Award.
John-Allan Namu is an investigative journalist
and the CEO of Africa Uncensored, an investigative and in-depth journalism
production house based in Nairobi.
A CNN African Journalist of the Year Award
winner (2009), Namu is a 2009 CNN fellow and a 2017 Archbishop Desmond Tutu
Fellow.
Wanyama meanwhile plays as a defensive
midfielder for Major League Soccer club CF Montréal.
He is also a trailblazer in the game, having
become the first ever Kenyan player to score in the UEFA Champions League when
he scored the first goal in Celtic's 2–1 win over Barcelona on 7 November 2012.
