Reggae lovers jam KICC for Richie Spice's memorable show
Reggae fans were last night treated to the best of reggae
tunes by visiting Jamaican reggae ace Richie Spice at the KICC grounds,
Nairobi.
The concert, dubbed 'Good Vibes Festival', attracted droves
of Kenyan reggae music fans who braved the night's chilly weather - and
intermittent slight drizzles - to enjoy music from the legendary reggae crooner.
An animated Spice, real name Richell Bonner, rocked fans for
over one hour as he performed a rich marathon of some of his most classic hits.
Before coming on stage, local Reggae stars kept fans
entertained as they enthralled the audience with their best hits.
Kenyan reggae stars Cathy Matete, Lavosti, Shamir and
Lyrical Erico started the night off as the band effortlessly treated fans to a
world-class instrumental mastery.
While waving a myriad of reggae-inspired flags fans kept the
atmosphere euphoric even as stubborn drizzles threatened to dampen the mood.
A few minutes past midnight, Citizen TV's 'One Love'
presenter Tallia Oyando, popularly known as the 'Night Nurse' stormed on stage
to wild cheers from the zhuzhed up crowd.
Resplendently-dressed in an all-black ensemble Tallia
shimmered as she worked the crowd, ran through a superbly-packed reggae medley
and set the stage for the night's main act.
Popular turntablist DJ Grauchi also joined Tallia on stage
as the duo roused the attendees, flags flying high, as the anticipation built
up.
A few minutes to 1.30am, the night's star Richie Spice
stepped on stage to a rousing roar from the eager crowd, opening with one of
his least-known stripped-down jams before quickly branching into 'Earth A Run
Red', 'Marijuana', 'Free' and 'Youth Dem Cold'.
As the night wore on, and the performance reached
feverpitch, Spice occasionally took time to prance up and down the stage, talk
directly to the audience, engage his fans and let his band showcase their
musical dexterity.
As his female background vocalists hummed harmoniously,
Richie thunderously tore into 'Gideon Boot' before transitioning into the mushy
'Grooving My Girl' and the seminal woman anthem 'Brown Skin'.
The charged crowd sang along, staying on their feet for the
entirety of the set, clapping thunderously after every performance and greeting
each new song with a wild clamor and a deafening acclaim.
The masterful reggae icon soon hummed through the emotional
'Crying Out For Love' before once again, blasting through an energy-packed
'Blood Again' and the career-defining 'Yap Yap'.
At around 2.30am, after an hour-long musical explosion, a
tireless Spice closed his show and invited his band members to each
individually showcase their adeptness.
With his rastafarian turban staying firmly in place, Richie
Spice, who was performing in Kenya for the fourth time now, proved his mettle,
showed off his impeccable excellence and secured his indelible spot, yet again,
in the hearts of Kenyan fans.
