Rapper Eminem’s mother Debbie Nelson dies

Dennis Dennehy, the spokesperson for the 52-year-old Grammy-winning rapper- real name Marshall Mathers, confirmed Nelson’s death to The Times on Tuesday.

Nelson passed away Monday night at a hospital in St. Joseph Missouri after her battle with lung cancer which reports of surfaced back in September.

After his parents’ separation in his childhood, Eminem shared a turbulent relationship with his mother who had him when she was still a teenager.

The tumultuous relationship with his mother has been the subject of some of his songs after he shot into stardom in the late 1990s.

One of Eminem’s highest charting singles, ‘Cleanin’ Out My Closet’ paints a clearer picture of the strained relationship with his mother highlighting alleged drug abuse and neglect.

“But put yourself in my position, just try to envision, Witnessin' your mama poppin' prescription pills in the kitchen, B- that someone's always goin' through her purse and s- missin, Goin' through public housing systems, victim of Munchausen’s Syndrome, My whole life I was made to believe I was sick when I wasn't, 'Til I grew up, now I blew up, it makes you sick to your stomach, doesn't it?”

Following several other tracks that spoke of her neglect, Nelson took legal action against her son in September 1999 from which she received $25,000 in damages rather than the $11 million she had initially filed for.

Their long-standing feud seemed to simmer down in 2013 after Eminem released ‘Headlights’ where he contemplated the penmanship of the tracks that were jabs at his mother.

“The brunt of it, but as stubborn as we are, did I take it too far? "Cleanin' Out My Closet" and all them other songs, But regardless, I don't hate you ‘cause, Ma, You're still beautiful to me, 'cause you're my Ma.”

Fans all around the world are mourning her death as her influence on his music is undeniable.
