Indian actress Priyanka
Chopra has revealed that she initially stepped away from the relationship with
her now husband Nick Jonas early on due to their 10-year age gap.
Speaking on Dax
Shepard’s ‘Armchair Expert’ podcast, the 40-year-old Hollywood star admitted
that she was sceptical about the relationship, at first, as the age difference
unsettled her.
She said that despite
exchanging a few messages now and then on social media, she was still hesitant
to go on a date with Nick because he was – and is - younger than her.
“Friends urged us
to meet in 2012, I was at the end of my last long relationship before Nick. I
didn't want to engage as much at the time. I was also like 35, and Nick was 25.
I really put a stop to it in a way because I judged the book by its
cover," she said.
The renowned
actress noted that she wanted something serious and wanted to settle done and
did not want to rush into a relationship only to make the same mistake she had
made prior.
She added that
most of her previous relationships made her feel gaslighted because she gave so
much power to the people she was with.
Priyanka jokingly
noted that although she wanted to settle down, she did not know that her
husband would be what she termed as a 70-year-old man stuck in a 30-year-old’s body.
Soon after, the
couple attended the 2017 MET gala together and the actress said Nick behaved
like the perfect gentleman; they got married in 2018 and welcomed their
daughter in January 2022.
"I've had wonderful
relationships, and my exes were bad, good, ugly," she stated, adding that
they shaped who she was at the time.
She went on to
note that after a year and a half, she had to prepare herself before meeting
Nick, saying; "it officially gave me so much clarity on what I needed, not
what I wanted."
