Nairobi Street Kitchen, which is located
at Mpaka Road in Westlands, incorporates an eclectic collection of
restaurants, bars and entertainment spaces setting the perfect mood for any
occasion.
Simba Corp Group CEO Dinesh Kotecha, speaking
at the launch event, said: “We are extremely pleased to commission the most
innovative street food market, in Kenya. It is the first of its kind as it
incorporates a kaleidoscope of culinary adventure featuring 11 different
cuisines including Mexican, South East Asian, Portuguese, Indian street food
presented in fun, expressive and creative ways.”
In his remarks, the President congratulated Nairobi
Street Kitchen for being innovative and creative to add a unique culinary
experience to the hospitality industry.
The Ministry of Tourism in its 2020 report to
measure the impact of COVID-19 established that the local tourism sector was
disrupted by unprecedented drop in hotel demand leading to closure of most
hotels and job losses.
This, the report credited to cancellation of
meetings, conferences, accommodation and exhibitions.
The hospitality industry has however been recovering since
August 2020 when international flights were opened up.
The government is now encouraging tourism
experiences like the Nairobi Street Kitchen to energize the industry, bring it
back from the ashes so it can thrive again as restrictions are loosened up and the
economy open ups.
The Nairobi Street Kitchen, through its food
production and hospitality, is providing employment to Kenyans; according to
Statista, the unemployment rate stood at 6.6 per cent in the first quarter of
2021 against 5.4 per cent in the previous quarter.
