Meet Rehema Muthamia, the new Miss England with Kenyan roots
Model Rehema Muthama, 25, was recently
crowned as Miss England, 2021.
The beauty pageant was held at
the Heart of England Conference and Events centre in the Midlands city a few
months ago.
Taking to Instagram after winning
the competition, she wrote:
“The best moment of my life so
far. It’s all been so surreal, from the moment I was called as Miss England
2021. Words can’t begin to describe what or how I’m feeling. I’ve gone from
shock, to excitement and everything in between. It is such a privilege to be
crowned as Miss England’s longest raining queen!”
What many people may not know
about the new beauty queen, however, is that she has Kenyan roots.
Rehema was born 1996 in England
to Kenyan parents. She spent part of her childhood in Kenya before moving to
North West London where she grew up.
In February this year, she competed against seven other candidates at the inaugural Miss All African Colours England where she bagged the title.
In addition to being crowned Miss
England, 2021 in August in a glittering ceremony in Coventry, she is also set
to represent England at the 70th Miss World at the Coca-Cola Music Hall in San
Juan, Puerto Rico this December.
In a recent Instagram post on her
page, she captioned a photo revealing her exhilaration for the upcoming Miss
world contest to be held on December 17, 2021.
“There are only a few days left
until the Miss World competition begins and to say I am excited is an
understatement. I am proud to represent England and can’t wait to fly out to
Puerto Rico and meet all the amazing contestants. Count down to the 70th Miss
World continues,” she wrote.
After being crowned Miss England,
Rehema revealed that an escaped abusive relationship with former boyfriend,
Lorenzo Dixon, motivated and pushed her to enter the competition.
She is using her platform to
raise awareness of domestic abuse, which she experienced herself, and advocate
for increased representation of ethnic minorities.
Rehema was targeted with racist
messages on social media after emerging top in the beauty competition.
Following the Black History month in October, she hit back at the racist trolls saying she was disappointed and sad that racism continues to exist in this day and age.
