'Mambo imechemka!' Musician KRG The Don joins UDA party
Kenyan dancehall
artiste Karagu Kimani, popularly known as KRG the Don, has officially joined
the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party.
KRG, alongside
fellow musician Bahati, were among entertainers who were welcomed to UDA by Secretary
General Cleophas Malala at the party headquarters on Wednesday.
In a video posted on
Instagram, the wealthy musician thanked UDA party boss President William Ruto
for fulfilling his promise to not leave musicians and entertainers out of his
government.
“Mapema niliwaambia
unaona tu shida zako, lakini shida ziko kila kona na watatusikiliza,” he said.
“Mimi msanii
nikipata, jamii imepata, kwa sababu msanii ni kioo cha jamii; we reflect what
we get to the community. So sisi tutakuwa tuko sawa, mambo itakuwa imechemka
kila kona.”
The controversial,
outspoken musician-cum-businessman was groomed with a yellow t-shirt and cap to
represent the UDA party following his move.
KRG and Bahati
were accompanied by comedian MC Jessy, who unsuccessfully vied for the South
Imenti Parliamentary seat in the 2022 General Election as an independent
candidate after missing out on a UDA ticket.
“There is no
discrimination in UDA. Every hustle matters and I assure you that you are safe
here,” said UDA SG Malala as he welcomed the entertainers into the fold.
“UDA has its doors
open to Kenyan youths from all walks of life, and pledges to walk the talk on
matters of youth empowerment in the country.”
