Lilian Muli on why she doesn't post her kids on social media

Lilian Muli says her children are not on social media because she is never going to allow anybody to put them through what she went through.

Speaking to Cynthia Mwangi on Behind the Mic series, Muli said she would not want her children to have unnecessary attention by virtue of them being hers.

“I want them to have a normal life, both of them are born on July they have a 9-year gap, totally different personality but they love each other. I am raising my sons to be very confident, happy, successful and good men to women, most importantly I want them to thrive,” she said.

The renowned Citizen TV Anchor is not a stranger to cyberbullying and intense scrutiny. She has been a regular target to cyber bullying, something she has continued to brave in silence. But, according to the journalist, that has not always been the case.

“Earlier in the industry people were ruthless and I used to engage them because I felt I had to prove a point but surprisingly as years go by when you stop paying attention to trolls and haters, they somehow take back a sit,” she said.

“I got married very young, a very public affair, big wedding...the media was there, it was like everybody’s business then a couple of years later, the guy and I we were not getting along so we had to go our separate ways. I go to a local Tv service provider to get a different account the lady there figured out that I moved out and the next the story is out there, it was in the blog and my business was out and I was very low moment in my life because first of all I was dealing with a separation” she added.

As a single mom, Muli says that sometimes balancing work and parenting can be a challenge.

“I am very present, I work so hard, and sometime balancing hat time is tricky. I don’t believe in delegating mummy duties to the nannies so always try to find time for them, they are everything to me. I do sometimes feel guilty when the rush for the income takes priority because I have to provide for them so it’s a catch 22,” she said

Today, Muli notes she regrets procrastinating some things.

"I should have done, rusting to easily I regret not taking mental health seriously. When things would get intense and overwhelming, I would seek an individual who would walk with me through life, therapy does not mean you’re sick it just means you are overwhelmed. I feel like I have lived my life at search a fast paced.  I feel like I have learnt so much, I have made mistakes, learned from them, I have cried, laughed and healed," she said.
