Larry Madowo's extreme floods reporting in Nigeria divides the internet

Popular Kenyan reporter Larry Madowo has divided the internet after sharing photos of him in a seemingly extreme news coverage for the Nigerian floods.

The CNN International correspondent shared a photo of him, knee-deep in a densely-flooded Nigerian slum, as a woman, probably an inhabitant in the area, spoke to him.

A camera lady can be seen capturing the conversation.

Captioning the photos across his various social media handles, Larry wrote "In-depth reporting of #NigeriaFloods. Literally. Tomorrow on CNN"

In an additional caption, he wrote, "I’m at risk of catching a water-borne disease, getting electrocuted or bit by something nasty. This is important enough that it was worth it."

While many lauded him for the extreme lengths he seemed willing to go to share an important story, others felt like the entire thing was an unnecessary gimmick, with others castigating him for promoting what they called 'poverty tourism'.

The statement 'I'm at risk of catching a water-borne disease, getting electrocuted or bit by something nasty' also tinned off majority of Nigerians the wrong way, once again pitting Kenyans and Nigerians in a short-lived Twitter exchange.

Twitter user @israelgraham tweeted, "And I suppose the poor woman there isn't at risk of any of those things while granting you the interview. Self-importance. Kudos to you Boss."

Whilst he may have faced flak for the photos, many people, however, lauded him, praised his courage and commended his dedication to reporting the news even in the harshest conditions.
