Is Sauti Sol really splitting? Savara Mudigi opens up
In the statement, the band said it was on its final worldwide tour before it took a break as a group, with its four members keen on pursuing solo projects.
The announcement, which came ahead of Sauti Sol's tour to the US and Europe, left fans guessing the end of the celebrated band.
The unwelcome news was further exercabated by the continued release of solo projects by especially lead singer Bien and Savara Mudigi, two of the four members of the band.
However, Mudigi has now come out to allay fans' fears, by clarifying that the band is taking a hiatus, just like many other succesful bands in the world.
In an interview with Eve Mungai, Mudigi said the Sauti Sol members have decided to take a break from the group and pursue solo projects, but that does not mean it is the end the band.
"Sauti Sol is still there. We are building other things, we are building legacies. There is so much that will be done, so msiogope (don't panic), we are still there," Mudigi said.
He added: "It's been a long time tumefanya muziki pamoja, may be imefika time tupatie fans a little bit of break. We've been in your faces for so long. We have to give a chance to other artists to blossom."
But before the hiatus, the band is set to tour Europe, and Mudigi has indicated they will host the annual Solfest in August.
Without disclosing further details, he said Solfest will go on as planned.
The other members of Sauti Sol include Willis Chimano and Polycarp Otieno.
The band has over time become a household sensation in Kenya and beyond, releasing hit after another and gaining global fame.
